Havana, July 14 – The Musicians Association of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC, for its acronym in Spanish) announces the 2025 "Harold Gramatges" Composition Prize, an event named after one of Cuba's most prestigious musicians.
According to the institution, this year's Prize will be dedicated to Chamber Music, providing a space to recognize and encourage the work of composers and contribute to enriching the repertoire for artistic education and professional chamber groups.
Among the established requirements are: the competition will include composition for chamber music formats, with the possibility of cycles of short pieces; in addition, works must be no longer than five and no longer than eight minutes; and must not have been premiered or won awards in other competitions.
Cuban composers and foreigners residing in Cuba are eligible to participate, with no age limit, with the exception of the First Prize winners in the last three editions.
First, Second, and Third Prizes will be awarded, as well as as many mentions as the Jury deems appropriate, and a certificate will be issued.
The Harold Gramatges Composition Prize application deadline is September 12, 2025, and the results will be announced at an awards ceremony on October 24 at the Villena Hall of the Uneac.
The call also states that registration must be made at the headquarters of the Association of Musicians of the entity, located at 17th Street, corner H, Vedado, Havana; or at its provincial and municipal committees, for a fee of 250.00 CUP.
The scores must also be received in a sealed envelope identified with a pseudonym, accompanied by a MIDI recording of the works; as well as another envelope identified with the pseudonym, containing the full name, home address, ID, telephone number, email address, and a brief resume.
