Cuba secures six bronze medals at Guizhou Open Boxing Tournament

Havana, July 15 – Cuba increased its bronze medals to six at the Guizhou Open Boxing Tournament in China, following Jorge Cuéllar's (71 kg) easy 5-0 victory over the local boxer Gang Wang on the fourth date of the event.

Cuéllar joined the world runner-up Saidel Horta (57 kg), Nelson Williams (92 kg), Dayira Mesa (75 kg), Leonardo Buides (+92 kg), and Arianne Imbert (66 kg), all of whom had previously advanced to the semifinals, although the last two have not yet debuted in the competition, according to the digital edition of the sports publication JIT.

The Caribbean squad suffered a defeat on Monday by Ernesto Comas (63.5 kg) against Mongolian Bayarkhuu Buyandalai, who caused a protection count in the second round and at the end of the fight he received a deserved unanimous verdict from the five judges.

Young Ángel Sober (51 kg) was also supposed to enter the ring, but a flu prevented him from doing so, and his host rival won by no-show. (Text and photo: ACN)
