Havana, July 16. - The National Assembly of People's Power of the Republic of Cuba issued a statement today rejecting the US presidential memorandum of June 30, which we reproduce below.
Statement of the National Assembly of People's Power of the Republic of Cuba
The deputies of the National Assembly of People's Power of the Republic of Cuba reject and denounce the US presidential memorandum of June 30, 2025, which reiterates the responsibility of the United States government for the intensification of the economic, commercial, and financial war, as a means to achieve the imperialist and colonialist objective of seizing Cuba.
The US aggression against Cuba violates international law and multiple UN resolutions. It also violates the right to self-determination, by virtue of which we Cubans have sovereignly established our national project.
The current shortages and the significant challenges facing the Cuban economy in its recovery, growth, and development are the result of the extreme reinforcement of the blockade, which, especially since 2017, has taken on a qualitatively more damaging effect. The shortages of food, medicine, fuel, and electricity that the Cuban people suffer today would not exist if this genocidal economic war had not been prolonged and intensified.
The ban on Americans traveling to Cuba, the persecution of fuel supplies, the obstruction of remittances, the measures against third-country governments for having Cuban medical services to care for their respective populations, the pressure on commercial and financial entities around the world to prevent their relations with Cuba, the encouragement of lawsuits in United States courts against investors in our country, and the unjust and arbitrary inclusion of Cuba on the list of alleged state sponsors of terrorism, with its dire consequences for the Cuban economy, are shamelessly presented as actions for the good of the Cuban people.
In the face of events like this, we reiterate to legislators and friends from all latitudes that the political will of this people will not be broken nor will it be subjected to the hegemonic dictates of the United States government.
Consistent with our history and faithful to our legitimate hopes, we worthy Cubans are aware of the extraordinary challenges of the present. We will be able to confront, united, these and other aggressive maneuvers of the American government and the corrupt anti-Cuban clique that promotes them, without ever giving up the commitment to build a society where dignity, justice and well-being are always the heritage of all.
