Friends from more than 20 countries will celebrate the 26th in Ciego de Ávila

Havana, July 21 – 370 friends from more than 20 countries will participate in the main celebration for July 26th in Ciego de Ávila, as a demonstration of support for Cuba and in repudiation of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States (US) government on this Caribbean nation.

Noemí Rabaza Fernández, first vice president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP, for its acronym in Spanish), reported that eight solidarity projects will be represented, such as the Venceremos brigades from the US, the José Martí European brigade, and the Latin American and Caribbean brigade, in addition to a Brazilian internationalist caravan.

Members of the Interreligious Foundation for Community Organization (IFCO)-Pastors for Peace from the US, and the José Martí Cultural Association, of Cuban residents in that country, will also be present; Friends of Sortu-Basque Country; and the With Love for Cuba program, of Ethiopians who graduated in Cuba.

"I highly value the response of the international solidarity movement with Cuba, which includes more than 1,700 organizations in 153 countries, which reject the US government's harassment of the island and admire the popular resistance in defense of sovereignty," Rabaza Fernández stated.

Activists face challenges, pressures, and measures approved to prohibit travel to Cuba, she noted, and expressed gratitude for the solidarity work they do in their countries, whether political or material economic aid.

She emphasized that in the coming months, the arrival of groups will continue, culminating in the ICAP 65th Anniversary Brigade, convened for December and dedicated to Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, founder of the Institute. (Source: ACN)
