Havana, July 28 – On the occasion of the 71st anniversary of Hugo Chávez's birth, authorities today recalled his friendship with Cuba and his legacy as a leader in the struggle for Latin American integration.
Roberto Morales Ojeda, Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC, for its acronym in Spanish), recalled the date on his X account and reaffirmed his loyalty to the fraternal ties forged by him and Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro.
"We remember him with the pride of having had in him Cuba's best friend," he said, alluding to the words of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution about the former Venezuelan president.
Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs, emphasized in a message on the same social network that Hugo Chávez, with his Bolivarian thinking, transformed Venezuela.
"Alongside Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, he wrote a history of solidarity and brotherhood that radiated throughout Our America," added the Cuban Chancellor.
Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías was born in Sabaneta, Venezuelan state of Barinas, on July 28, 1954.
In December 1998 he won the presidency of Venezuela, assuming his first magistracy in February 1999, where he made a constitutional change with freedoms and rights that were denied until then to most of the population.
Chávez died on 5 March 2013, at the early age of 59, in the Doctor Carlos Arvelo Military Hospital in Caracas, a victim of cancer. (Source: ACN)
