Havana, July 29. - Esteban Lazo Hernández, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, president of the National Assembly of People's Power and the Council of State, is participating from this Tuesday until July 31 in the Sixth World Conference of Presidents of Parliament, organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in close collaboration with the United Nations (UN).
This is the first time that the Cuban legislative leader has attended this important international event in person, held every five years and established for the first time in 2000, on the eve of the United Nations Millennium Summit, as a unique forum for high-level participation and dialogue among the highest parliamentary authorities from around the world.
During the Conference, held at the Palais des Nations, headquarters of the United Nations Office at Geneva, Lazo Hernández will participate in the general debate, in panels, and in other convened forums. He will also hold bilateral meetings with parliamentary leaders from different nations, among other activities.
The Cuban delegation also includes Ambassador Rodolfo Benítez Verson, Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva; Deputy Marta Hernández Romero, coordinator of the permanent working committees of the National Assembly of People’s Power; and Jesús Rafael Mora, director of International Relations of the legislative.
