Havana, August 7.- Approaching its 65th anniversary on August 23rd, the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC, for its acronym in Spanish) continues its mission of integrating its members into society, as one of the foundations of the revolutionary process.
In an exclusive interview with the Cuban News Agency, Marta Columbié Palacios, an 80-year-old member who has been affiliated with the organization since the 1960s, expressed that with the creation of the FMC, Cuban women gained the tools to defend their rights within the country, something that was not possible before January 1, 1959.
Columbié Palacios highlighted the figure of Vilma Espín Guillois as the eternal guide of the federation and promoter of various actions carried out in favor of women and children.
She also noted that, thanks to the work the organization has carried out over the years, the presence of women is now seen in the country's leadership and in various social spheres, who have the autonomy to decide their future.
The interviewee emphasized that, based on her experience, being part of this structure has allowed her to grow as a human being through the activist role she has played for decades in her community, instilling values in the new generations.
Columbié Palacios, a native of Pinar del Río who worked in the tobacco industry, said that the achievements of the FMC are a reflection of the principles of the Cuban Revolution, which from its beginnings looked after the needs of the people. (Text and photo: ACN)
