United Nations, August 14.- More than 100 children have died from malnutrition and hunger in Gaza, adding to the 40,000 reported dead or injured to date due to Israeli bombings and airstrikes, the UN warned.
In a report prepared with data from the Children's Fund and Save the Children, the United Nations (UN) also warned that to date there are at least 17,000 children unaccompanied or separated from their families, and one million "deeply traumatized and without access to education".
According to Stéphane Dujarric, spokesperson for UN Secretary-General António Guterres, reports of deaths from starvation have become commonplace, "reflecting the deepening humanitarian crisis and the urgent need for sustained assistance".
The unprecedented increase in malnutrition cases among children makes it necessary to establish and expand centers to combat malnutrition. So far this year, more than 340 children have been admitted to these facilities, he added.
The UN also reported that, in July, more than 900 homes in Gaza reported ongoing trauma leading to mental health issues such as anxiety and depression.
"Many people live in overcrowded, unsafe, informal shelters, lacking space and privacy, especially women and children", Dujarric said.
Furthermore, relief workers themselves are traumatized, and currently, aid partners have begun providing psychosocial support to their own teams, he added.
Humanitarian workers reported a lack of shelter supplies and facilities and noted that tents and tarps need to be replaced because many people are exposed to the weather. (Source: Prensa Latina)
