Havana, August 19 - The Council of State, upon the proposal of the President of the Republic and with prior approval from the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, has decided to appoint Jesús Otamendiz Campos, the current Provincial Vice Governor of Havana, as the new Minister of Labor and Social Security.
Otamendiz Campos, 50 years old, holds a law degree, a doctorate in Pedagogical Sciences, and has completed a diploma in Public Administration. He has held various roles, starting from the grassroots level, and has achieved positive results. He began his professional career as an instructor for the Young Communists Union (UJC) in the Cerro municipality of Havana, where he was later promoted to a member of the Bureau and subsequently to First Secretary of that organization in the same municipality.
In 2005, he was appointed Head of the Organization Department of the Provincial Committee of the UJC in Havana, a position he held until 2008 when he was designated Head of the Social Workers Program for the capital, a role he maintained until 2012, at which point the Program was integrated into the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.
Within this ministry, he served as Director of Training and Development, Director of Employment, and Deputy Minister. In 2021, he was elevated to First Deputy Minister until 2023 when he was elected Provincial Vice Governor of Havana, where he has demonstrated capability and leadership, serving as an immediate reserve for the Minister of Labor and Social Security.
