Havana, August 25 - Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez expressed gratitude to China today for its demand to the U.S. government to end the economic blockade and the persecution of international medical cooperation with the Caribbean nation.
On his X account, the head of Cuban diplomacy highlighted the statement from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which “calls for the immediate lifting of the blockade against Cuba under any pretext, including its new measures aimed at obstructing our legitimate medical cooperation.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Asian giant also urged the U.S. to adopt measures that “contribute to improving relations with Cuba and promoting regional peace and stability,” recently stated the ministry’s spokesperson, Mao Ning.
The Chinese diplomat reminded that, according to statistics from the Cuban government, more than 600,000 healthcare professionals from the Caribbean archipelago have provided health services to over 230 million people in around 60 countries.
As a result of this cooperation, which has lasted over six decades, more than 17 million surgical operations have been performed, saving the lives of about 12 million people. Governments in Latin America and Africa express appreciation for this important contribution to their healthcare systems, Mao noted.
According to China’s stance, the so-called “forced labor” that the United States invokes to criticize Cuban medical collaboration has become a false pretext and a tool of hegemony that prolongs the blockade and escalates unpopular measures against the Caribbean nation. (PL) (Photo: Internet)
