Petro: The "Cartel of the Soles" is a fictitious excuse to overthrow governments

Colombia, August 26 - The "Cartel of the Soles" does not exist; it is a fictitious excuse used by the far right to overthrow governments that do not obey them, asserted Colombian President Gustavo Petro regarding the alleged criminal organization.

The president emphasized on his X social media account that the transit of Colombian cocaine through Venezuela is controlled by what he called the Narcotics Junta, whose leaders, he claimed, reside in Europe and the Middle East.

Petro disclosed that he proposed to the United States and Venezuela to join forces in dismantling this criminal group, emphasizing that such efforts require coordination rather than submission.

He also mentioned that issues in Venezuela should be resolved with the involvement of its own citizens, and that the fight for decarbonization should be a primary goal.

"Great Colombia, a global powerhouse of life and a vital pillar of Latin American unity and peace," Petro wrote.

The Colombian leader has previously dismissed the existence of the "Cartel of the Soles" as a falsehood, noting that the United States uses it as a pretext to intimidate the Bolivarian Republic.

"Who manages the cocaine trafficking through Venezuela is not the Cartel of the Soles; that is a lie, just like the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, and it only serves to justify invasions," he stated last week.

He then argued that the leaders of these criminal networks "are the same ones controlling cocaine trafficking from Catatumbo (in northeastern Colombia), the Llanos, and the Bogotá savannah. They are called the Narcotics Junta, and the U.S. government and European intelligence agencies have had this information for some time," the president added. (Text and Photo: Cubasí)
