Camagüey, September 11.- The 10 de Octubre Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTE) in the municipality of Nuevitas has had both units online since early this morning, and are currently increasing load, company officials confirmed to the Cuban News Agency (ACN).

Those who belong to the Camagüey company are contributing to the efforts of workers in the sector in the recovery of the National Electric System (SEN), which suffered a total shutdown this Wednesday due to the unexpected failure of the Antonio Guiteras CTE in Matanzas.

After the formation of an island system with generator sets in this city, the plant received power the previous late afternoon and evening, and its workers and specialists have been working uninterruptedly to apply the prescribed protocols.

According to Jorge Luis Maceira, general director of the 10 de Octubre Thermoelectric Plant, who explained this to ACN, block six is capable of reaching more than 90 megawatts (MW) of power, since before the system shutdown, that unit was delivering 95 MW.

The operation of the Nuevitas Power Plant is strategic, as it is located in the central-eastern part of the country. This allows it to assist in supplying power to other plants in the region, thus strengthening the SEN (National Electricity System) by progressively increasing its generation capacity.

According to statements to the press by the Director General of Electricity of Unión Eléctrica, Lázaro Guerra Hernández, the SEN's recovery is already showing significant progress.

Guerra Hernández confirmed just after 8:00 pm on Wednesday that unit eight of the Mariel thermoelectric plant, unit three of the Santa Cruz del Norte plant, and unit three of the Cienfuegos thermoelectric plant were in the process of starting up.

At another point in the update, he reported that there is a system connected from Energas Boca de Jaruco to Mariel and part of Havana, in addition to another central system that includes Energas Varadero and the start-up of the Cienfuegos unit.

He also confirmed the existence of the microsystem in Camagüey, which supplied power to unit six of the Nuevitas thermoelectric plant, and ensured the operation of the distributed generation motors at Moa, in Holguín.

The executive of Unión Eléctrica highlighted the existence of a microsystem practically throughout the country, which guarantees coverage of almost 500 MW. (Jorge Luis Moreira Massagué/ACN) (Photos: Rodolfo Blanco Cué/ACN and taken from the Internet)
