Camagüey, September 19. - With a vibrant day of recreational activities in the city's Plaza Maceo, Prosalud Camagüey celebrated the central event of Wellness Week. The initiative sought to promote healthy lifestyles in a practical way and strengthen community ties among the people of Camagüey.
The event also included the Health Fair, a space dedicated to promoting natural medicine, as well as the distribution of educational and promotional materials.
In this context, HIV testing was conducted in men, with the aim of promoting early detection and preventing the spread of the virus.
The initiative is part of the Cuban healthcare system's efforts to raise awareness about sexual health care, facilitating access to rapid and reliable testing in a friendly and open environment.
The Sanabanda initiative and the drawing contest, featuring the Conrado Benítez García, Renato Guitart, and Josué País elementary schools and the Vicentina de la Torre Academy of Arts, helped raise awareness among children and young people about the importance of comprehensive well-being.
The participation of institutions such as the Federation of Cuban Women, the Cultural Sector, the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education, and Recreation, among others, was also highlighted for their contribution to strengthening intersectoral collaboration.
One of the main themes of this edition is intersectorality and Health in All Policies (SeTP, for its acronym in Spanish), approaches that recognize the need to coordinate efforts across different sectors to improve living conditions.
The initiative seeks to address social determinants such as housing, transportation, and access to green spaces, which directly influence community health.
Ana Isabel Abay Márquez, MSc. head of the Prosalud and Educational Component department at the Provincial Center for Hygiene and Microbiology, emphasized that "the active participation of vulnerable groups and the inclusion of different social actors in the formulation and implementation of public policies are essential to promoting health equity and ensuring that no one is left behind in this process of social transformation."
She added that "Wellness Week in Camagüey seeks to foster profound reflection on the importance of building a healthier and more just society."
The initiative aims to strengthen cooperation between institutions, educational centers, workplaces, and the community at large, to consolidate an environment where health is a shared priority. (Text and photos: Maykel Torres La Rosa/Radio Cadena Agramonte)
