Call for female filmmakers over 50 years old

Havana, September 23 – The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Cuba Office, in partnership with the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema and Palomas Project, an Audiovisual Production House for Social Activism, is launching a call for applications for the Older Women Filmmakers in Film for Gender Justice grant.

The purpose of the initiative is to promote and highlight the audiovisual creations of women over 50 living in Cuba, providing support for short fiction and documentary projects and promoting content that addresses gender equality, diversity, and the many forms of discrimination.

Furthermore, according to the call for applications, the grant seeks to provide a concrete opportunity for women filmmakers to bring their stories, ideas, and proposals to the screen: a short documentary or fiction project with a gender and intersectional focus, addressing issues such as rights, diversity, discrimination, and aging, among others.

To participate, creators must ensure that the audiovisual work does not exceed 15 minutes and addresses gender justice, bodily autonomy, human rights, aging, discrimination, diversity, or other related topics, focusing on narratives with a transformative, inclusive, and rights-based approach.

The selected work will receive a production grant equivalent to USD 10,000; in addition to technical advice and creative support from the Palomas Project team and audiovisual professionals; and a special screening of the finished footage during the 2026 International Festival of New Latin American Cinema in Havana.

An application form is available at the link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf5PdNsUbIakzj4rEq9wwT3Hhk6heutGh3dvLSDS9csn4jsBw/viewform?usp=header, to which a synopsis of the project (no more than one page) will be attached, the complete script, the thematic justification and approach, a personal motivation letter, the estimated budget and production schedule, as well as a biographical sketch or Curriculum Vitae of the applicant.

Applications will be accepted until November 18th of this year, and the announcement of the selected work will take place on December 5th. Meanwhile, according to the rules, the audiovisual work must be completed with a screening copy by October 30, 2026.
