Camagüey joins the Week of Pregnancy Prevention in Adolescents (+ photos)


Camagüey, September 24. - The province of Camagüey joins the celebration of the Week of Pregnancy Prevention in Adolescents, established by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), with a wide program of educational a ctivities.

The initiative aims to make visible the consequences of unplanned pregnancy in adolescence and promote the sexual and reproductive rights of young people.

Iraida Juviel Román, principal specialist of the Reproductive Sexual Health Program in the Health and Disease Prevention Unit (Prosalud) in the province, explained what under the global motto by 2025, “let's put an end to child pregnancy”, the actions in the territory are aimed at promoting understanding and support between new generations, increasing knowledge and access to contraceptive methods, and reducing forced sexual relations.

He added that as part of the activities in the Junior High School "Farabundo Martí" of the municipality of Florida, specialized talks, participation games and a dramatized games that illustrated the physical, emotional and social risks associated with pregnancy in adolescence were held.

Prevention week also serves as prelude to the commemoration of World Prevention Day of Pregnancy in Adolescents, on September 26, date that will reinforce the message of the day.
