Jimaguayú, Camagüey, September 26 - With the aim of strengthening food sovereignty, the Basic Unit of Cooperative Production (UBPC, for its acronym in Spanish) Combate de Pacheco, in the municipality of Jimaguayú, is making steady progress in fulfilling its planting plans for various crops.
The group maintains a practical and planned approach to ensuring sustained production that provides food for the population and strengthens the local economy.
Among the UBPC's priorities are the recovery of lands that were infested with marabou and their transformation into fruit-producing areas.
This reconversion, accompanied by the implementation of polyculture techniques, aims to maximize the diversity of the plantations and reduce dependence on single crops, which strengthens the unit's resilience to climate variations.
Support for innovative projects has improved the cooperative's infrastructure and optimized work processes.
"With an agroecological vision, the Combate de Pacheco UBPC has incorporated practices that prioritize soil health, biodiversity, and the responsible use of inputs," stated Juan Carlos Medina Cortellán, its president.
Looking ahead, the unit aims for Jimaguayú to host the provincial headquarters for the Agricultural Workers' Day, which will take place on October 3. This objective drives the group to be disciplined in implementing its plans and efficiently applying science and technology.
