Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, stated that artificial intelligence could surpass human intelligence before the end of this decade.

In an interview with the German newspaper Die Welt, the CEO stated that "by the end of this decade, by 2030, I would be very surprised if we didn't have extraordinarily powerful models doing things we can't do ourselves." He also noted that even today, GPT-5 is already smarter than he and many other people.

The executive emphasized that between 30% and 40% of current economic tasks could be taken over by AI in the short term, although he stressed that human relationships and understanding the needs of others will remain fundamental. Despite the technology's capabilities, he insisted that the key will be deciding how to use it and which applications will be truly useful to society.

Path to Superintelligence

Currently, the growth of ChatGPT and other OpenAI models faces limitations due to enormous energy consumption and a lack of infrastructure. To address this, the company is working on the Stargate megaproject, approved by President Donald Trump, which includes an 800-acre (almost 324 hectares) complex in Texas and at least five more data centers under construction in the United States.

Altman believes these facilities will be key to supporting the next generation of models and bringing closer what he calls "superintelligence," capable of producing scientific discoveries beyond human capability. (Text and photo: RT)
