Havana, Oct 4 - The National Association of the Blind (ANCI, for its acronym in Spanish) announced the holding of its 9th Congress, whose main goal is to outline work strategies to achieve a more inclusive society.
Julia Gastón Chacón, vice president of ANCI, explained at a press conference that the event will be held from October 7 to 9 at the Palace of Conventions in Havana, with over 200 delegates representing the association’s 31,000 members nationwide.
She pointed out that the congress, held every four years, will include panels and four commissions addressing topics such as technology, culture, sports, communication, and employment, to review progress on inclusion and identify what still needs to be done.
Before the congress, a national assembly process collected the main concerns and ideas from members.
Jorge Luis Cabrera, head of ANCI’s Department of Public Relations, Education, and Culture, said that during the event, people and institutions supporting ANCI’s work will be honored.
Several cultural activities will also take place, showcasing the artistic talents of members, some of whom have been trained professionally as singers and artists.
ANCI celebrated its 50th anniversary on July 19 and has aimed since its founding to socially integrate people with visual disabilities. (Text and photo: ACN)
