Venezuela rejects Trump's permission for CIA operations on its territory

Moscow, October 16 – The Venezuelan government on Wednesday rejected statements by US President Donald Trump, in which he admitted to authorizing covert operations by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) on Venezuelan territory.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela rejects the bellicose and extravagant statements by the US president, in which he publicly admits to having authorized operations to act against the peace and stability of Venezuela, according to a statement released by Foreign Minister Yván Gil on his Telegram channel.

The statement warns that this unprecedented statement constitutes a very serious violation of international law and the United Nations Charter, and obliges the community of countries to denounce these clearly immoderate and inconceivable statements.

Caracas described the use of the CIA, as well as the announced military deployments in the Caribbean, as a situation of extreme alarm and assessed that these actions constitute a policy of aggression, threat, and harassment against Venezuela, consistent with the legitimization of a regime change operation whose purpose would be to appropriate Venezuelan oil resources.

Previously, President Nicolás Maduro condemned attempts to overthrow governments through the CIA, given the region's bloody history. "No to coups carried out by the CIA, which remind us so much of the 30,000 disappeared in the coups against Argentina, Pinochet's coup, and the 5,000 murdered and disappeared young people. Until when will there be CIA coups? Latin America doesn't want them, doesn't need them, and repudiates them," he said.

Referring to the argument put forward by Trump to authorize the CIA to operate on Bolivarian soil – that the South American nation had allegedly emptied its prisons to send migrants to the US – Venezuelan authorities warned that these statements seek to stigmatize Venezuelan and Latin American migration, fueling xenophobic and dangerous discourses.

To conclude, Venezuela reported that it formally filed a complaint regarding these events at the extraordinary meeting of foreign ministers of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC, for its acronym in Spanish) held today and announced that on this October 16, it will do the same before the UN General Secretariat and the Security Council, where it will once again demand accountability from Washington and urge the adoption of urgent measures to prevent a military escalation in the Caribbean.

US Aggression in the Caribbean

Currently, Washington is carrying out military actions and bombings in waters near Venezuelan territory under the unsupported and unproven pretext of combating drug trafficking cartels. Caracas has labeled these actions as aggression and has questioned the true reason behind the operations. Furthermore, last August, the US deployed a large military contingent in the area.

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro maintains that his country is the victim of a multi-faceted war orchestrated from the US. The Venezuelan state, he has reiterated, is the target of an armed aggression aimed at imposing a regime change and a puppet government, in order to steal its oil, gas, gold, and all natural resources.

Many world and regional leaders have also considered that there is no evidence to support the US accusation against the president. (RT) (Photo: Taken from the Internet)
