Maintenance at Nuevitas CTE aims for better operation

Camagüey, Oct. 25th - Workers from the October 10th Power Plant (CTE, for its acronym in Spanish), in the Camagüey's municipality of Nuevitas, and other brigades, are undertaking a seven-day maintenance on Unit Six, concentrated on changing the 6B circulation pump and repairing one of the regenerative air heaters (RAH), in order to provide the block with better conditions for operation.

Engineer Jorge Luis Maceira Esteva, general director of the plant, explained to the Cuban News Agency that in the case of the aforementioned pump, of seawater, they will replace the two reducers, as well as several damaged cold baskets in the RAH 6B.

Maceira Esteva added that they will take advantage of the generator's output to carry out manual descaling tasks in the passage areas of the superheater two of the boiler.

In addition to the identified critical paths, there is an accompanying volume of work, aimed at solving other problems that accumulate, as part of the block's operation, he said.

Brigades from the Electric Power Plant Maintenance Company (EMCE, for its acronym in Spanish), the Engineering Works Construction Company, the Industrial Technical Services Company (ZETI, for its acronym in Spanish), and the plant's own workshops are involved in the actions.

Unit Six of the Nuevitas CTE, at the time of its disconnection, contributed 80 megawatts (MW) to the national electricity system (SEN, for its acronym in Spanish), lower than its usual power, motivated by dirt in the RAH, which they will wash on this occasion.

After the ongoing maintenance, which they plan to conclude next week, the block will be able to deliver more stably between 100 and 105 MW, the director remarked.

Today, the Camagüey's thermoelectric plant has machine number five online with the SEN, generating 60 MW in a favorable mode. (Jorge Luis Moreira Massagué/ACN) (Photo: Rodolfo Blanco Cué/ACN)
