
Nuevitas, Camagüey, October 27. - The Municipal Defense Council specified with the various subgroups the main actions to guarantee the preservation of human lives and state resources in Nuevitas, ahead of Hurricane Melissa's passage through the eastern part of the country.
From the Population Protection Commission, it was learned that there are 13 high-risk pregnant women evacuated to the local General Teaching Hospital Martin Chang Puga, and more than 200 families are safely sheltered in the homes of relatives and friends; additionally, the EIGHT evacuation centers have the necessary logistics and medical resources to accommodate people.
Likewise, in the food stores, work continues until late at night on the sale of rice from the basic basket, while the food subgroup instructed the Fishing Enterprise, Dairy Combine, and agriculture to commercialize various products for the population.
Nibaldo Cardoso González, President of the Defense Council in Nuevitas, explained that it is vital to be prepared and alert, as Hurricane Melissa, in its passage through Cuban territory, will bring intense rains and winds to the northern zone, where our municipality is located.
For this reason, information is indispensable at the current moments, as the weather event also brings the risk of coastal flooding, and this locality has areas like Santa Rita, San Jacinto, and Santa Lucia prone to sea penetration.
