Cuba, irregular migrants, return, United States

232 irregular migrants return to Cuba from the United States

Havana, November 7 - At noon this Thursday, 232 irregular migrants returned to Cuba through José Martí International Airport, deported by U.S. authorities in compliance with bilateral migration agreements.

According to the Ministry of the Interior's (Minint) Facebook profile, the operation included 42 women, one minor and 189 men, and constituted the tenth air return carried out from that country so far this year.

Three of the returned individuals were taken to investigative bodies for allegedly committing crimes before leaving the country, competent authorities confirmed.

With this action, the total number of returns from different nations in the region in 2025 reaches 38, with a total of 1,376 Cuban citizens reintegrated.

Cuban authorities reiterated their commitment to regular, safe, and orderly migration and warned of the risks that illegal departures pose to the lives of those who undertake them.

The migration agreements between Cuba and the United States, established in 1984 and updated several times, are based on guaranteeing regular and safe migration, preventing illegality, and ensuring the return of irregular migrants.

These agreements include the granting by Washington of a minimum of 20,000 visas annually to Cuban citizens, as well as periodic review meetings between the two governments.

In December 2024, officials from both countries held talks in Havana to review the validity of the agreements and their importance as an instrument of stability in bilateral relations. (Text and photo: ACN)
