National Energy Transition Strategy Presented at FIHAV

Havana, November 26 - The National Energy Transition Strategy, based on science and innovation, was presented today at the Expocuba fairgrounds as part of the 41st edition of the Havana International Fair (FIHAV 2025).

Marlenis Águila Zamora, principal specialist in the Renewable Energy Directorate of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem), highlighted a series of key elements that make up the strategy, including the involvement of the population and the effective management of municipal and provincial systems to achieve the utilization of resources in the residential sector and local management.

Águila Zamora stated that the country has a program for the electrification of homes in the residential scheme, and plans to offer solutions also to homes isolated from the national electrical energy system.

She indicated that work is being done from the municipal strategy to achieve self-sufficiency by utilizing the resources of each territory.

Regarding electric mobility, she argued that there is a nationwide program for the installation of fast-charging stations, and the first stage for 24 stations will be presented, which will allow electric vehicles to access the provinces and tourist hubs.

In relation to other areas, she highlighted that in the agroindustrial and food production sector, solar-powered water pumping is practiced, along with plant recovery, power generation outside the harvest season, and the development of alcohol production and biogas generation from vinasse.

On a global scale, the Caribbean nation is a founding member of the International Solar Alliance and is developing collaborative projects with international entities, she added.

Cuba has a professional and multidisciplinary team, overseen by Minem, which brings together different spheres of society.

FIHAV 2025 will extend until the upcoming November 29, the day it will open its doors to the public. (Source: ACN)
