Customs detects attempt to extract counterfeit cigars

Havana, March 13.- Wiliam Pérez González, First Deputy Head of the General Customs of the Republic, reported on his profile on the social network X this Thursday that officers detected two passengers attempting to extract from the country more than 370 boxes of counterfeit cigars of different brands, violating the current legal regulations for the export of this economic item.

The case was reported to the National Revolutionary Police.

The General Customs of the Republic specified in other information that the illegal traffic of Cuban brand cigars has been characterized by systematic attempts at illicit extraction and falsification of official documents, with significant seizures at José Martí International Airport.

In November 2025, more than 26,000 false Cohiba brand authorizations were seized on a flight from the United States, which evidenced the magnitude of the fraud and the intention to introduce counterfeit products into the international market.

Subsequently, in February 2026, the institution detected more than four thousand false official stamps of tobacco brands that were intended to be illegally extracted, reinforcing the alert about the counterfeiting of authenticity elements.

And now in March 2026, the seizure of 370 boxes of counterfeit cigars, with immediate report to the National Revolutionary Police, confirming that the most frequent methods are the illicit extraction of significant volumes and the falsification of official authorizations and stamps.

The General Customs of the Republic, in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and the National Revolutionary Police, maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards these crimes.

The defense of registered Cuban brands, such as Cohiba, and others, constitutes a strategic priority within the Secure Border program, which reinforces surveillance at airports and exit points from the national territory. (Text and photo: ACN)
