Camagüey, Dec 1.- This December 1, the central Plaza del Gallo in this city became a stage for education and solidarity, hosting a community event for World AIDS Day.
The activity featured a biographical exhibition on the virus along with a display of educational materials. At the tables, brochures, books, and leaflets provided key information for prevention and disease management.

The most reflective moment came with the intervention of Dr. Angélica Rodríguez Fernández, who offered a clarifying explanation about the origins of this global commemoration. In clear language, she recalled how this day was established to honor the victims, support those living with this condition, and renew social commitment to the HIV response.

In that context, Rodríguez Fernández made an energetic call to action, to strengthen early diagnosis and, above all, to work together to overcome stigmas and discrimination barriers that still surround people living with HIV. She emphasized that misinformation and prejudice remain obstacles as damaging as the disease itself.

The gathering, characterized by an atmosphere of respect and openness, had an essential practical component: the free distribution of condoms. This gesture, accompanied by simple and accessible counseling, underscored the central message that prevention is the first and most effective shield against the epidemic, promoting individual and collective responsibility in sexual health care.

In the Plaza del Gallo of the Camagüey 's capital, it was demonstrated that the fight against HIV/AIDS goes beyond clinics and requires a community effort. By integrating education, resources, and a clear message of inclusion, this Camagüeyan initiative reinforced that awareness, respect, and solidarity are ultimately the most powerful tools to advance toward a better future.
