Eternal friendship: A journey through 65 years of Vietnam-Cuba brotherhood

Hanoi, December 5 - The exhibition "Eternal Friendship," inaugurated today at the Women's Museum in Hanoi, aims to recount, in a simple yet profound way, the 65 years of affection and solidarity shared by Vietnam and Cuba.

This was noted in her opening speech at the exhibition by Nguyen Thi Tuyet, director of the Fatherland Front and Women's Museums of Vietnam, who highlighted the special significance of this event, commemorating the sixty-fifth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

This was noted in her opening speech of the exhibition by the director of the Vietnam Women’s and Homeland Front Museums, Nguyen Thi Tuyet, who highlighted the special significance of this event, Commemorating the sixty-fifth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

Thi Tuyet underscored that the exhibition also pays tribute to General Nguyen Thi Dinh, who was not only an exceptional strategist and a profoundly humanist leader, but also a person who dedicated her life to strengthening relations with friends and in whose heart Cuba held a special place.

“For many years,” she said, “the Vietnam Women’s Museum has not only been a place to preserve the memory and heritage of dozens of generations, but also a cultural bridge where the values ??of international friendship, solidarity, unity, and our nation’s revolutionary tradition are connected and disseminated.”

The director of the institution also recalled the moving verses of the poet To Huu from his first visit to Cuba, when he wrote: “I arrived in Cuba, island of pearls that intoxicates/intoxicates the sea breeze and the infinite warmth of its people…/That friendship, through a thousand storms/remains faithful, like a burning call in the heart.”

“That is also the spirit we wish to convey: that the friendship between Vietnam and Cuba continues to be written and carried on by the generations of today and tomorrow,” she concluded.

For his part, the Cuban ambassador here, Rogelio Polanco, praised the rigorous selection process for the photographs, posters, and other objects that make up the exhibition, which constitutes a well-deserved tribute to the historic ties forged between the two nations.

Polanco highlighted that both Vietnam and Cuba treasure epic stories of heroines who contributed to the struggle for independence, liberation, and economic and social development, and mentioned among them the heroine of the Cuban Revolution Melba Hernández and the Vietnamese general Nguyen Thi Dinh, who synthesize an exceptional legacy.

The Cuban diplomat also highlighted the successful campaign in support of the Cuban people recently launched by the Red Cross and the Homeland Front of Vietnam, through which millions of contributions were received from the Vietnamese people in solidarity with Cuba, as well as numerous messages of encouragement.

As part of the opening ceremony of the "Eternal Friendship" exhibition, the president of the Vietnamese Alumni Club on the island, Phuong Song Lien, journalist Huynh Dung Nhan, and director Nguyen Ha Tiep, one of the filmmakers of the documentary "Two Hearts, One Heartbeat," shared their experiences of their relationship with Cuba.

In addition, the museum director received a flag from Manuel Montané, nephew of the heroine Melba Hernández, who for years spearheaded the fervent and unwavering support for the Vietnamese cause. The flag had been given to Melba Hernández by Vietnamese students in 1996 on her birthday. (Text and photo: PL)
