Camagüey, 10 de Octubre Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTE), Nuevitas, National Electric System (SEN), breakdown, pipe, boiler

Unit Six of the Nuevitas CTE back online after boiler breakdown

Camagüey, December 11 - Unit six of the 10 de Octubre Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTE, for its acronym in Spanish), located in the Camagüey municipality of Nuevitas, was synchronized with the national electric system (SEN, for its acronym in Spanish) on Wednesday afternoon after a breakdown in a boiler pipe was repaired.

At the time of the incident, when the duct of a gas recirculating fan cracked, it caused flames, which forced the machine to stop and be taken out of the system, explained engineer Jorge Luis Maceira Esteva, general director of the plant, to the Cuban News Agency.

He also clarified that it was not a fire, as had been reported on social media and other media outlets.

Maceira Esteva pointed out that the aforementioned block re-entered the SEN at 5:20 pm this Wednesday and reached 92 megawatts (MW) of generation, and maintains a stable operation, while the number five contributes in the area of 54 and 55 MW.

Specialized teams from the Power Plant Maintenance Company (EMCE, for its acronym in Spanish), the ECOI, and the power plant's own personnel carried out the repairs in 72 hours, successfully rehabilitating the pipeline and completing other related tasks.

The staff of the 10 de Octubre power plant in Nuevitas, located northeast of the city in the industrial zone of Camagüey province, is preparing to celebrate the 57th anniversary of its first startup on January 30, 1969.

The power plant has a workforce of 820 employees, more than 400 of whom are involved in production, including those in the maintenance area. (Jorge Luis Moreira Massagué/ACN) (Photos: Rodolfo Blanco Cué/ACN)
