Call to measure the role of women in agro-food production

Havana, Dec 13.- The Event of Women Executives of the Agro-Food Business Group concluded in the capital, with a call for the 2026 meeting to evaluate the impact of the leadership and empowerment of this workforce in the production of meat, milk, preserves, and vegetables.

In the presence of Ramón Aguilar Betancourt, President of the Agro-Food Commission of the National Assembly of People's Power; Juan Carlos Domínguez Márquez, President of the aforementioned Higher Organization of Business Management (OSDE, for its acronym in Spanish), highlighted the quality of the presentations delivered by representatives from 25 of its 42 entities.

He noted that, therefore, valuable experiences and results from combating gender violence stereotypes, workplace harassment, and women's lack of access to decision-making positions—barriers that hinder greater empowerment and leadership of women in their collectives—remained at the base level and were not transmitted.

Closing the event, held this Thursday and Friday at the Cojímar Convention Center, the executive stated that, in line with the Women's Advancement Program, it is necessary to ensure that their role contributes to the transformations of the business system.

Some presentations were dedicated to the training and promotion of women to management positions, family support for them, and communicative practices, while others focused on the reorganization of productive processes in entities within the dairy, meat, and preserves sectors.

The President of the Agro-Food Business Group emphasized that, given the challenges facing the OSDE for 2026, where it must achieve higher levels of efficiency and foreign currency income, he directed that the impact of women's role in this regard be measured.

During the closing ceremony, awards were presented to the winners of mentions and the prizes for Outstanding and Relevant Presentations.

Recipients of this latter distinction were "Work-Family Interaction in the Lives of Women Executives" by Anne Marie Martínez from the Granma Meat Enterprise; and "Family Support for Women" by Yudith Montes from La Conchita Preserves and Vegetables Enterprise in Pinar del Río.
