La Gaceta de Cuba, Arts Corporation, Poetry Prize, Prometeo Creation Grant

2026 Poetry Prize and Prometeo Creation Grant announced

Havana, Jan 5.- The Editorial Board of La Gaceta de Cuba (LGC), with the sponsorship of the Prometeo Arts and Poetry Corporation, has announced, through its digital platforms, the 2026 Poetry Prize and the Prometeo Creation Grant.

With a submission deadline of February 6 of this year, those interested in the Poetry Prize may participate provided they are Cuban artists residing in the country and have not received the award in the last three editions; members of the LGC Editorial Board may not compete.

Regarding the Prometeo Grant, it will only consider creators under the age of 35, who may submit one or more poems not exceeding 200 lines; similarly, upon registration, authors will also be eligible for the main prize, although both awards cannot be given for the same work.

For both competitions, the works must be completely unpublished, have no prior publication commitment, and must not be submitted to any other contest; moreover, the use of artificial intelligence will not be permitted, as the goal is to recognize human creation and artistic talent.

Regarding the rewards for the winners, the organizers informed that the recipient of the Poetry Prize will receive five thousand pesos in national currency, the publication of the winning work in LGC, and the opportunity to participate in the Medellín Poetry Festival; meanwhile, the winning poem of the Prometeo Creation Grant will be awarded with the printing of the competing work in the pages of the gazette, in addition to receiving a six-month creation grant of three thousand pesos per month.

Further details of the call are available on LGC's digital platforms, where the specifications to be met when submitting the works can be found, with the works soon to be examined by a jury of prestigious Cuban intellectuals.

Submissions will be accepted exclusively via email at: escritores@uneac.co.cu, and the jury's decision will be announced on April 15 of this year, the day marking the 64th anniversary of the founding of the magazine La Gaceta de Cuba by the National Poet and first president of the Union of Cuban Writers and Artists (Uneac, for its acronym in Spanish), Nicolás Guillén.
