Havana, January 7 - Cuba achieved 95 percent vaccination coverage in 2025, a result attributed to the reorganization of Primary Health Care, reported Yagén Pomares Pérez, National Director of Primary Health Care at the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP, for its acronym in Spanish).
The official explained to the Granma newspaper that the process included transformations in more than 450 polyclinics, more than 10,000 basic health teams, and 760 basic work groups, with a direct impact on the quality of services.
Pomares Pérez noted that, although not all the planned results were achieved, progress was made in conducting consultations and field visits, which allowed the country to maintain coverage indicators comparable to those of developed countries.
In the context of the 42nd anniversary celebration of the Family Doctor and Nurse Program, created by the historical leader of the Revolution, Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, and Cuban Hygienist and Epidemiologist Day, the director emphasized current epidemiological challenges, particularly the high incidence of Chikungunya.
According to the specialist, healthcare professionals responded to the situation with discipline and commitment, reaffirming the importance of the Primary Health Care system in combating arboviruses.
The national director congratulated hygienists, epidemiologists, and the staff of the Family Doctor and Nurse Program, and highlighted the scientific and human contributions of the sector's workers.
The Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) plans to continue reorganizing its structures and teams to consolidate coverage and more effectively address the country's epidemiological challenges. (Source: ACN)
