Havana, January 7 - Cuban musicians and artists today released a Declaration of solidarity with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in response to the criminal military attack and kidnapping of Constitutional President Nicolás Maduro Moros, perpetrated by the United States government in the early morning of January 3, 2026.
Released during the Cuban Institute of Music's Annual Review by maestro and pianist Frank Fernández, National Music Prize winner (2005), the text condemns in the strongest terms this act of state terrorism, a flagrant violation of International Law and the Charter of the United Nations.
"We support the courageous denunciation by the President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, against this criminal attack and, together with him, demand an urgent response from the international community," it adds.
We reaffirm our unwavering support for the Venezuelan people, the government of their president Nicolás Maduro, and the civic-military alliance that defends national sovereignty; we join in the dignified resistance of the Venezuelan people, who today, as yesterday, defend their homeland from the clutches of interventionism, the Declaration also states.
The signatories further express their unwavering belief in the power of a culture of peace; at the same time, they urge intellectuals and artists worldwide to denounce this barbarity, confident that they will continue to use art, songs, music, and poetry as weapons of denunciation and affirmation of sovereignty, self-determination, and brotherhood among peoples.
They also join the call of the Network of Intellectuals, Artists, and Social Movements in Defense of Humanity for militant and active solidarity in closing ranks around Venezuela, as well as demanding the immediate cessation of all military operations, the economic blockade against that nation, and the immediate and unconditional release of President Nicolás Maduro Moros and First Combatant Cilia Flores.
Faithful to the internationalist legacy of our Revolution and to the example of Fidel Castro Ruz (1926-2016) and Hugo Chávez (1954-2013), we are and will always be by the side of Bolívar's homeland, concludes the Declaration of the Cuban musicians and artists representing the Cuban people.
"Art has no homeland, but artists do," concluded the prominent pianist and figure of national culture, after cheers for the Bolivarian Revolution, the brotherhood between both nations, and a resounding "Until Victory, Always!" (Source: ACN)
