Havana, December 29 - Amaury was born on December 26, 1953 (69 years old), the son of Amaury Pérez García and Consuelo Vidal, emblematic figures of Cuban song.
Singer-songwriter and television host, composer, poet, guitarist, and singer. Founding member of the Nueva Trova Movement. His songs draw close to jazz and pop, others blended with rock music, and his most recent creative line is based on the style of romantic ballads. He is one of the most important Cuban composers of the second half of the 20th century. He is also a performer, record producer, writer, scriptwriter, director, and host of radio, shows, and television. In recognition of his artistic career, he received the Félix Varela Order.
From a young age, he showed an interest in the world of art, and in 1963 he composed the anthem for his primary school, Augusto César Sandino. During this same period, he began his work as an actor in children's programs on Cuban Television. He started in music as a self-taught artist, learned to play the guitar, and composed his first songs. After meeting Silvio Rodríguez, Pablo Milanés, Sara González, and Noel Nicola in 1971, his compositions were defined within the style of the Nueva Trova. During this time, his work included setting to music poems by Cuban poets such as José Martí, Nicolás Guillén, and international ones like Miguel Hernández, Machado, among others.
