Camagüey, Dec 15. - The 4th Peasant Event "Guateque de la Llanura" will be held from December 18 to 21 in the courtyard of the Cabaret Caribe, at the emblematic cultural center of Artex, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
This event is a celebration of Cuban peasant culture, where traditional music, improvised poetry, and folkloric dance intertwine to pay homage to rural roots. This edition is specially dedicated to the renowned artist Justo Arturo Fontes Vega, whose career has been fundamental in promoting popular art and the plains identity.
The artistic cast brings together emblematic groups such as Los Agramontinos and Los Camagüeyanos, along with repentista poets, genre soloists, the Camagua Folkloric Company, and the horseman José Téllez.
The diversity of styles and expressions promises a vibrant and authentic experience, where oral tradition, rhythm, and dance become vehicles of memory and celebration.
The hosts Sandra Martínez Sedrés and Orestes Oduver Navarro will guide each day, accompanied by special guests such as María Victoria Rodríguez and Tony Iznaga, known as "El Jilguerito."
Under the artistic and general direction of Fernando Medrano Vireya, the Guateque de la Llanura solidifies itself as a meeting space for generations, knowledge, and emotions. More than an event, it is an affirmation of peasant culture as a living source of creation and resilience. (Text: Betzabé R. Cabreja Jeffers/Radio Camagüey) (Photo: Televisión Camagüey)
