Cuba, Boleros de Oro International Festival, genre, Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity

Music and tributes call for the Boleros de Oro festival in Cuba


Havana, Oct. 3 - The 37th edition of the Boleros de Oro International Festival, in the Cuban capital, today offers opportunities for intellectual exchange and moments to enjoy the genre, whose practice was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2023.

The Covarrubias Hall of the National Theater of Cuba will host the Bolero Moments Gala in the evening, featuring a star-studded lineup including Raquel Hernández, Emilia Morales, and Héctor Téllez, among other artists.

According to the program, the Culture House of the Plaza de la Revolución municipality has reserved the space Añorado encuentro, with the participation of creators who defend the genre from Cuba, Venezuela, and Argentina.

Another venue hosting the festival is BuleBar 66, which invites you to enjoy Boleros de Oro, recalling Benny Moré and Sonora Matancera.

Meanwhile, the International Colloquium "Boleros de Oro" is taking place in the Villena Hall of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC, for its acronym in Spanish), dedicated to the 95th anniversary of Omara Portuondo and the 75th anniversary of Cuban Television.

This Friday, participants will discuss in the morning bolero clubs as a sociocultural practice, the role of the bearer in the community practice of the genre, and bolero on vinyl records.

In the afternoon, the section Behind the Cover in Bolero Time will take place, featuring album presentations and a demonstration class.

Artists from Cuba, Mexico, Venezuela, and Argentina gather at the festival, which will conclude this Sunday and pays tribute to essential figures such as Manuel Corona, Ernesto Lecuona, Barbarito Diez, Paulina Álvarez, Moraima Secada, and Adolfo Guzmán. (Text and photo: PL)
