Havana, August 18 - “Solo tú” is the title of the album that singer Zulema Iglesias is promoting today on digital platforms. She will represent Cuba at the International Music Intervision Contest on September 20 in Moscow, Russia.
Part of the catalog of the Music Recording and Publishing Company, this album, nominated for the 2024 Cubadisco Award, showcases the versatile singer-songwriter’s fusion of jazz with other rhythms.
The CD features tracks such as “Veinte años,” “My Funny Valentine,” “Guaguancó,” “Danza Ñáñiga,” “Summer Time,” “Solo tú,” “Hoy se vive así,” “Mundo al revés,” “En momentos,” and “Tensión.”
At the Live Arena in Moscow, the Santiago-born artist will compete with her original song “Guaguancó,” under the musical direction of Argentine Rodrigo Sosa (Gran Premio Cubadisco 2025) and arrangements by the producer himself and Ángel Toirac, as reported by the Cuban Institute of Music (ICM) on its Facebook page.
According to the statement, the song combines Cuban traditions with elements from the singer’s personal history, and her work is characterized by blending traditional Cuban genres with contemporary influences, while also highlighting her extensive vocal range.
Critics regard her as an “extraordinary” artist known for her interpretative power and cultural roots, as noted by the ICM.
She has represented Cuba in international festivals and tours in Spain, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Mexico. In Mexico, she participated in the Maya Culture Festival in Isla Mujeres and the reopening of the Benny Moré Cultural Center in Mexico City.
The singer has collaborated with both Cuban and international artists, including renowned musicians Frank Fernández, Beatriz Márquez, and Pancho Amat, all of whom are National Music Award winners. (Text and Photo: Cubasí)
