Beijing, Jan 13.- China reaffirmed its support for Cuba in defending its sovereignty and national security following recent threats from U.S. President Donald Trump.
In response to a question from Prensa Latina, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized the Asian giant's opposition to external interference in the affairs of the Caribbean island.
"We once again urge the United States to immediately end the blockade, sanctions, and any form of coercive measures against Cuba, as this would be conducive to regional peace and stability," the spokesperson stated.
In response to another question regarding U.S. interference in Venezuela's economic matters following Washington's military aggression against Caracas, Mao Ning emphasized that Latin American nations are sovereign and independent states with the right to independently choose their partners.
"Regardless of how the situation evolves, China will continue to deepen practical cooperation with Latin American countries, including Venezuela, to promote mutual benefit," she noted.
On multiple occasions, the Chinese Foreign Ministry has urged the United States to lift the blockade as soon as possible and remove the island from the so-called list of State Sponsors of Terrorism.
Beijing and Havana celebrated this year the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
Furthermore, the shared future community between China and Cuba is the first established by the Asian giant with a Latin American country.
Donald Trump stated the previous day that he would leave the island without products or money from Venezuela, in addition to reiterating his threats to attack the country directly.
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-CanelBermúdez categorically rejected any accusations against the Caribbean nation and questioned Washington's moral authority to pass judgment on Cuba's reality. (Text and Photo: Cubadebate)
