Díaz-Canelhighlights days of honor and glory for fallen compatriots


Havana, Jan 13.- Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC, for its acronym in Spanish) and President of the Republic, highlighted today the national tribute to the 32 combatants fallen in the attack on Venezuela, following the arrival of their mortal remains in the homeland.

On X, the head of state noted that this Thursday, Cuba will receive its compatriots with honor and glory, those who fell heroically in defense of the sovereignty of a sister nation.

Díaz-Canel emphasized in his message: "With truly Cuban courage, they challenged the heavily armed, cowardly, and illegal kidnappers of the President of Venezuela."

The 32 Cubans who fell on January 3rd were fulfilling missions representing the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Ministry of the Interior, at the request of counterpart institutions of the South American country.

The President of the Republic of Cuba declared two days of National Mourning, from 6:00 a.m. on January 5th until 12:00 midnight on January 6th.

This Thursday, the mortal remains of the 32 combatants will be received in Havana with military and popular honors, marking the beginning of a national tribute that will conclude with their burial on Friday in their places of origin.

According to a note from the Revolutionary Government, the fallen compatriots will receive their first posthumous tribute in a military ceremony at the José Martí International Airport and will be transported along Rancho Boyeros Avenue to the headquarters of the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (Minfar), where a representation of the people will pay them honors along the route.

From 10:00 a.m. on January 15th, the mortal remains of the combatants will be on view at the Minfar headquarters for the population to pay their respects.

On Friday, January 16th, at 07:30 a.m., Havana residents will gather at the José Martí Anti-Imperialist Tribune for an event that will initiate a March of the Combative People, and at 09:00 a.m., tribute ceremonies will be held in all provincial capitals.

At 4:00 p.m. on January 16th, they will be interred in the Pantheons of the Fallen for the Defense in their respective localities. (Source: ACN)
