Camagüey, Jan 23.- The City of the Tinajones (Earthenware Jars) is preparing to celebrate its Culture Week from February 1st to 7th, 2026, in honor of the 512th anniversary of the founding of the former village of Santa María del Puerto del Príncipe.
This event, deeply rooted in local identity, brings together artists, institutions, and communities in a diverse program that exalts Camagüey’s heritage. The streets, squares, and cultural centers will be transformed into living stages where tradition and contemporary creation converge.
This year's edition is dedicated to significant anniversaries that mark the pulse of collective memory: the centenary of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, an essential figure in Cuban history; the 90th anniversary of the Soneros de Camacho ensemble, an emblem of popular music; and the 65th anniversary of the Professional Choir and the Camagüey Symphony Orchestra, both pillars of artistic training.
The event also celebrates the 30th anniversary of Rumbatá and the Taller de Crítica (Criticism Workshop), the 15th anniversary of the Camagua Folkloric Company, and the half-century of the Jesús Suárez Gayol Museum. Each anniversary represents an invaluable contribution to the city's cultural development, consolidating the diversity of expressions that enrich its legacy.
Camagüey's Culture Week establishes itself as a meeting space between generations, where tradition dialogues with contemporary creation. More than a celebration, it is an affirmation of identity that honors its protagonists and projects its legacy into the future.
The city invites its residents and visitors to join this festival of living memory, which turns every corner into a stage for pride and cultural resilience. (Text: Betzabe R. Cabreja Jeffers/Radio Camagüey) (Photo: Internet)
