Camagüey, February 4 - Conceived as an opportunity to enrich the Draft Law on Land Ownership, Possession, and Use, the consultation process for this proposal legitimized the principle of popular participation in Camagüey.
This was stated on Tuesday by Ramón Aguilar Betancourt, president of the Agro-Food Commission of the National Assembly of People's Power, who specified that the province stands out among the 11 selected to promote a debate that will strengthen consensus and provide the new law with greater robustness.
Previously, Law 148 on Food Sovereignty and Nutritional Security and the Livestock Law were approved in the country, and this proposal aims to achieve better land use and management, he pointed out.
When assessing the main concerns arising from the consultation process, both in Camagüey and in the other three provinces where this type of analysis has been conducted, he mentioned the continuity of property transmission through inheritance, reaffirming respect for the rights of Cuban farmers.
Similarly, he commented that other proposals are related to land limits and the participation of self-employed workers, non-agricultural cooperatives, and MSMEs (micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises), whose social purpose includes the production, transformation, and commercialization of food.
During the evaluation of the aforementioned document in Camagüey, among other criteria, the divisibility of farms, recognition of land value as collateral for banking operations, and the importance of dignifying life in the countryside prevailed.
