Elite boxers train hard ahead of Santo Domingo 2026

Havana, Feb 4 - The 2023 world runner-up, Saidel Horta, was among the winners in a lively sparring session featuring members of the national boxing preselection.

At the capital's Roberto Balado gym, Horta (CFG) defeated Luis Enrique Vinent (SCU) in one of the most anticipated bouts of the day, designed as part of the preparation for the qualifying tournament for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo.

Jorge Cuéllar (SSP), Keilor García (CFG), and Nelson Williams (CMG) joined the list of notable victors on a tough day for others like Giorvis Salfrán (GTM), Osvaldo Díaz (SSP), and Jairo Munive (HOL).

The national commission of the sport announced that this Wednesday, the iconic facility will host another card featuring members of the Island's elite training squad who are vying to be selected for the tournament that will distribute spots for the Central Caribbean event.

This qualifier will take place from March 12-17 in Guadalajara, and the competition assigned to the Dominican capital will be held from July 24 to August 8. (Text and photo: JIT)
