Camagüey, Oct 13.- The Camagüey native Julio César La Cruz leads the Cuban elite boxing preselection that is conducting training bases in China.
According to the online newspaper Jit, Robinson Poll, also from Camagüey and national commissioner, reported that 13 men and one woman make up the group distributed across four cities in the Asian country.
In addition to two-time Olympic champion La Cruz (+90 kg), the roster is completed by Erislandy Álvarez (65 kg), Fernando Arzola (90 kg), Keilor García (80 kg), Yusnier Sorsano (70 kg), Yusiel Bes (50 kg), Osvaldo Díaz (57 kg), Frank Cleger (50 kg), and Darieski Palmero (65 kg), while the female presence is provided by world champion Dayira Mesa (70 kg).
Poll also announced that the western group competition of the National Boxing Series will begin in Pinar del Río from October 12 to 20, with the participation of the local squad, Mayabeque, Havana, Artemisa, Matanzas, and Isla de la Juventud.
Holguín will host the eastern group competition, where teams from Las Tunas, Guantánamo, Santiago de Cuba, and Granma will face.
