Sheinbaumunder attack for support to Cuba, warns Argentine analyst

Buenos Aires, Feb 5. – Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum is currently the target of a fierce media attack by those who want to hinder that country's ties with Cuba and sour the atmosphere between Mexico and the United States, warned Stella Calloni.

"It is absolutely false that Sheinbaum has cut off the oil supply to Cuba, as alleged by manipulators of information through social networks who also seek to generate unease and more unrest among the Cuban people," stated the Argentine political analyst in a conversation with Prensa Latina.

At a time when no other country has sent a shipment of crude, Mexico has done so and its dignitary has reiterated that she will continue sending humanitarian aid to the island, emphasized the renowned writer, poet, and journalist.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel reiterated Havana's gratitude to the Mexican government for the humanitarian aid that continues to arrive non-stop to the island from Mexico, and for this, Sheinbaum is being attacked more and more, Calloni warned.

The affirmation about the continuity of petroleum shipments to Cuba was reaffirmed this Wednesday by the General Director of Pemex, Víctor Rodríguez Padilla, at the press conference usually held by the president, who was flanking the official while he spoke before the national and international press.

Rodríguez Padilla stated that the export contract in effect since 2023 will be maintained.

The executive explained that it is a normal commercial contract like those maintained with other nations. In Cuba's case, he indicated, we only have one treaty, which dates from 2023.

"It is a normal commercial agreement like the ones we have with other countries. We work with more than 50 nations on the trade of fuels, crude oil and its derivatives, and with Cuba we have one just like with any other country," he stated, and added that Pemex maintains this contract for humanitarian reasons.

In his explanation, the official mentioned that crude oil exports to the island represented less than one percent of Pemex's total oil production in 2025.

And he emphasized that Havana pays for these shipments, and in response to journalists, specified that the sale amounted to 496 million dollars.

Rodríguez Padilla elaborated that besides the humanitarian aspect of the agreement, it has commercial value, "it is part of our trade, so with them we have a very good exchange. The contract is open, it depends on their needs, they request based on our availability." (Text and photo: PL)
