Havana, Feb 9. - Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel thanked Mexico today for sending more than 814 tons of humanitarian aid, amid the tightening of the blockade imposed by the United States on the Caribbean nation.
On his X social media account, the president expressed, "Thank you #Mexico. For the solidarity, the affection, the always warm embrace to #Cuba."
In similar terms, the Cuban Foreign Ministry responded with a concise "Thank you," while also sharing the words of the island's ambassador to Mexico, Eugenio Martínez, who conveyed, "Our sincere and profound gratitude to the Government of Mexico, its people, and its President for the material aid being sent to the Cuban people."
Yesterday, the ships Papaloapan and Isla Holbox departed from the port of Veracruz with aid that "will help alleviate the consequences of the cruel economic war against Cuba," said the ambassador.
In a statement, the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs detailed that the Papaloapan transports essential food items, including liquid milk, meat products, cookies, beans, rice, tuna in water, sardines, and vegetable oil, as well as personal hygiene items, with a cargo of approximately 536 tons.
Meanwhile, the ship Isla Holbox carries just over 277 tons of powdered milk.
The Foreign Ministry announced that the ships are expected to arrive at their destination in four days and that more than 1,500 tons of powdered milk and beans remain to be shipped.
"Cuba and Mexico are brotherly peoples, heirs to a long history of solidarity that we honor today," emphasized the statement, which confirmed the fulfillment of "the instructions of President Claudia Sheinbaum." (PL) (Photo: Takenfromthe Internet)
