Moscow, Feb 11 - Iran's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, spoke with RT about what his country's retaliation strategy would be in the event of US aggression.
"We would attack the USA and United States facilities, everything they have in our neighborhood," he said. However, he admitted that he does not wish to address such a scenario.
"I do not want to express something that I do not like to happen. I am a man of diplomacy. I am a man of dialogue. I am a man of negotiation and everyone knows me," he stated.
"My country, our Armed Forces, are fully prepared for any eventuality, but my preference is diplomacy," he reiterated.
US Threats
Tensions between the US and Iran escalated in early January following the threat from American President Donald Trump to proceed with military intervention, initially citing the internal protests in Iran. Although the demonstrations ceased, Washington maintained the pressure, redirecting its argument towards Tehran's nuclear and missile programs.
On Friday, the first round of indirect contacts between the US and Iran on the nuclear issue took place in Muscat, Oman. The consultations were conducted separately, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, and the White House special envoy, Steve Witkoff, meeting in turns with the Omani Foreign Minister, Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, who acted as mediator.
Following the meeting, Trump asserted that Iran seems very interested in reaching an agreement. For his part, Araghchi also described the atmosphere as "positive" and confirmed the willingness to keep the dialogue channel open. However, Tehran has repeatedly stated that it is prepared to respond to any strategic mistake by the US with heavy blows. Furthermore, they have warned that a complete cessation of uranium enrichment is absolutely unacceptable for the Persian nation.
On Tuesday, the American president announced that he is considering sending a second aircraft carrier to the Middle East, in order to prepare for military action if negotiations with Iran fail. "We have a Navy heading there and another could be on the way," said Trump. (Text and photo: RT)
