There is no peace while the Israeli occupation continues, affirms Jordan

Amman, Feb 19.- The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan, Ayman Safadi, affirmed today that peace will not be achieved in the Middle East while the Israeli occupation of territories in Syria, Lebanon, and Palestine continues, the official Jordanian news agency Petra reported.

Speaking before the United Nations Security Council, during a session dedicated to the situation in the Middle East and the Palestinian question, the head of Jordanian diplomacy stressed that those who truly desire peace must not undermine it.

He emphasized that there is no alternative to the two-state solution and that no other formula will guarantee peace, security, or stability for Israel, the Palestinians, and the entire region.

"We want a just peace and we work for a just peace that fulfills the right of the Palestinian people to freedom and to a State in their territory, and that guarantees the security of Israel and normal relations with all the Arab States," he stated.

Safadi recalled that the Arab Peace Initiative remains a comprehensive proposal for a secure future, in which an independent and sovereign Palestinian State lives in peace alongside Israel.

He stressed that peace will not be achieved by perpetuating the occupation or annexing the West Bank, nor through the oppression of the Palestinian people and the denial of their right to freedom and dignity.

Likewise, he pointed out that there will be no stability as long as the occupation of Lebanese territory continues and the ceasefire agreement is not respected.

The Jordanian Foreign Minister urged joint efforts against what he described as illegal Israeli measures in the West Bank, which, he warned, place that territory on the verge of explosion and keep the region prisoner to the conflict.

Safadi insisted that the region will not enjoy stability as long as injustice and oppression persist, and the Palestinian people are denied their right to freedom. He noted that peace is a shared objective and its foundations are established in international law and human values.

He warned that the annexation of the West Bank would amount to declaring the death of any possibility of peace and would open the door to more wars and destruction, a scenario whose cost would fall on Palestinians, Israelis, and all the peoples of the region.

The minister also denounced the hate speech promoted by extremist sectors in Israel, which, in his opinion, will not contribute to peace or coexistence. (Source: Prensa Latina)
