Havana, March 3. - The Pan American Sailing Federation (Panam Sailing) has made official the program for the nautical discipline heading towards the Lima 2027 Pan American Games. A total of 14 medal events, one more than in the Santiago 2023 edition, make up the approved regatta schedule.
The Peruvian event will have an additional attraction: ten of the summoned classes will serve as direct continental qualifiers for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, distributing quotas among all regions of the Americas.
Among the classes that will grant tickets to the Olympic event are, in the men's branch, the single-handed dinghy ILCA 7; Formula Kite; iQFOiL windsurfing; and the double-handed skiff 49er.
The women, for their part, will compete in ILCA 6; iQFOiL; Formula Kite; and 49erFX.
In the mixed categories, the Nacra 17 multihull and the I-470 double-handed dinghy complete the list of Olympic classes.
The program also maintains four traditional regional events that will distribute Pan American medals, although without granting qualification for the Olympic Games.
These are Sunfish for both genders, Snipe, and the mixed triple-handed regional dinghy in Lightning, with a crew of two women and one man.
According to Panam Sailing, it is expected that Paracas Bay will once again be the venue for the regattas, as was the case in Lima 2019.
The sports entity highlighted the location's conditions as a guarantee for the development of the event, which will bring together the best sailors from the continent on the way to Los Angeles 2028.
Regarding organizational deadlines, the federation advanced that its executive committee will meet in the coming days to begin the process of determining the qualification system for the continental event. (Text and photo: JIT)
