Cuban journalists pay tribute to Juan Gualberto Gómez

Havana, March 5.- A pilgrimage to the tomb that guards the remains of Juan Gualberto Gómez Ferrer, in the year of the 93rd anniversary of his passing, constitutes today's tribute by Cuban journalists to the illustrious patriot.

With this tribute to the black brother of José Martí, the events for Cuban Press Day will begin, which despite the context, the Union of Journalists of Cuba (UPEC, for its acronym in Spanish) does not overlook in order to recognize the work of those who daily reflect the life of the country.

On this occasion, the events are dedicated to Fidel, on his centenary, and to Pablo de la TorrienteBrau, on the 125th anniversary of his birth and 90th anniversary of his fall in combat during the Spanish Civil War as an internationalist fighter.

From this Thursday until the upcoming March 14, the date of the founding of the newspaper Patria by Martí, the country's journalists will hold meetings with young people, conferences, and gatherings.

Juan Carlos Ramírez, vice president of UPEC, explained in a recent press conference that the central event for the anniversary will take place next week, during which the José Martí National Journalism Award for lifetime achievement will be presented to Tubal Páez Hernández, this year's recipient of the highest decoration granted by the organization.
