Beijing targets up to 5% growth for 2026


China, March 7 - China has set a target of 4.5 to 5 percent economic growth for this year and will strive to achieve better results in practice, according to the government work report submitted Thursday to the country's top legislativebody for deliberation.

Other key development goals for this year include: A surveyed urban unemployment rate of around 5.5 percent; over 12 million new urban jobs; an increase in the consumer price index of around 2 percent; an increase in population income synchronized with economic growth; a basic balance in the balance of payments; grain production of around 700 million tons; and a reduction of carbon dioxide emissions per unit of Gross Domestic Product of around 3.8 percent.
