Promotion of solar irrigation system installation in the Cuban agricultural sector

Havana, Mar 9.- This year in Cuba, the installation of more than two thousand photovoltaic irrigation systems is planned, with the aim of reducing the agricultural sector's dependence on the National Electroenergetic System and, in turn, guaranteeing greater sustainability in food and industrial production.

The General Director of Engineering at the Ministry of Agriculture, RodovaldoLópez Valle, explained that within the annual planning "we have 74 irrigation systems in the country" corresponding to PRODECAFÉ, nurseries, and established plantations.

On the other hand, they aim to reach around 10 thousand hectares of tobacco using this technology.

The initiative responds to the energy matrix change that Cuba is currently undergoing, as part of the Government Program to correct distortions and revitalize the economy. (Source: Granma)
