CTC calls for the Primero de Mayo 2026 Journalism Award

Havana, March 10 - The Workers' Union of Cuba (CTC, by its acronym in Spanish) called on journalists and producers of print, radio, television, wire service agencies and correspondents to participate in the XLIII edition of the  Primero de Mayo 2026 Journalism Award, on the occasion of International Workers' Day.

According to the organization's Facebook profile, the contest will recognize works that reflect the role of the Cuban trade union movement as the representative of workers' interests and the work of the CTC, as well as publications that highlight the contribution of labor collectives to the economy and services.

Works of all journalistic genres published between March 1, 2025, and February 28, 2026, may compete, provided they are based on concrete facts and use as sources labor collectives and outstanding workers from both the state and non-state sectors.

Topics include political processes linked to the 22nd CTC Congress, the consultation on the Draft Law of the Labor Code, the discussion of the Economy Plan and Budget for 2026, and the analysis of the Government Program to support the economy.

Publications on workers' solidarity in the face of damage caused by Hurricane Melissa, trade union participation in updating the economic model, employment and wage policy, technological innovation, labor justice, and unionization in different sectors will also be considered.

The jury will award twelve main prizes and select a Grand Prize among the awarded works. Additionally, the province with the best results in the contest will be recognized.

Works must be submitted to the Department of Education and Propaganda of the National CTC by March 17, 2026, in digital format and including the contestants' personal data. The awards ceremony will be held in April, within the program of activities for International Workers' Day.
